Why SAM.gov Registration Matters

The System for Award Management (SAM.gov) is the federal government's official database for contractor registration. If your SAM registration is expired or inactive, you cannot receive federal contract awards, task orders, or purchase orders. Period.

Common SAM Problems

• Expired registration: SAM registrations must be renewed annually. If you miss the renewal window, you're ineligible for new awards until it's reactivated.
• Wrong NAICS codes: Outdated or incorrect NAICS codes mean contracting officers can't find you in searches.
• Missing certifications: Your SAM profile should reflect all current SBA certifications (8(a), HUBZone, SDVOSB, WOSB) for set-aside eligibility.
• Exclusions: Companies or individuals can be suspended or debarred, making them ineligible for awards.

Checking your own SAM status regularly — and verifying potential teaming partners' status before proposal submission — prevents costly surprises.
